The Point Lookout Brownie
Troop #2352, lead by Debbie Amen
& Barbara Wengler,
visited the Long Island Toy Lending Center
for Children with Disabilities to learn about the Center on
the East Marina and to lend a helping hand. The director, Colleen
Moseman gave the girls a tour of the Center and brought out
examples of different toys that enhance the children's abilities
to play. The toys displayed
were adapted for children who have physical limitations and the
Troop learned why toys need to be adapted. The Toy Center
had received $500.00 in Toys R Us certificates for a Holiday gift
from a thoughtful donor. Colleen Moseman purchased toys from
Toys R Us and the Brownies were kind enough to help in labeling
the toys with identification numbers before they are loaned for
home use. The girls learned about the process of organizing
a toy inventory by unwrapping toys from packages and labeling
parts of each toy with an assigned number. The
children of the Long Island Toy Lending Center thank their friends
from Brownie Troop #2352 for lending their support in providing
toys for the children to borrow as soon as possible.
The Toy Center will
also take part in a collaborative project with Brownie
Troop #2352 during the Easter/Passover vacation. The
children are asking for donations for those in need who reach out
to St. Mary of the Isle Community Service
Center for help. Bring donations of canned food,
small household items, blankets, baby furnishings and clothing to
the Long Island Toy Lending Center for Children with Disabilities
at the East Marina in Point Lookout during the time period of
March 28th to April 7th. Please tie all
donations in plastic bags that may be left at the Toy
Center. For further
information call Debbie Amen (889-0923)
or Colleen Moseman (889-8287).
