On
Saturday, October 2 , several hundred people
gathered at Ye Olde Firehouse in Point Lookout, to
celebrate the Point Lookout-Lido Fire Police's second
annual Hertiage Day.
Part
of the activity included the free raffle of "kid
safety alerts". Donated by Hug Real Estate, these
timely "little lime men" can be seen around
town as a reminder for drivers to SLOW DOWN.
Shown in
the photo is Fire Police Captain Bob Main
presenting a commemorative T Shirt to Town of Hempstead
Supervisor Kate Murray. (The Town recently painted day
glow white road stripes at all our stop signs.) The
attractive lime color shirt, is still available
thru Fire Police. It features the 15mph and 30mph
speed limits in Point Lookout and Lido respectively as
well as stopping behind a school bus (when stopped with
a flashing red stop sign ) and yielding to emergency
vehicles. Also shown are photos of Joan
Lynch facing painting Charlotte Leon as well as the
lined up "lime men" ready for "adoption"
by caring residents. . In addition to face painting, the
Street Fair featured unlimited clam chowder in a commemorative
mug, hot dogs, soda and many free give-a-ways including
a handy refrigerator magnet donated by Meier
Real Estate.
The
Fire Police Company, is part of the Point Lookout-Lido
Fire Dept.. Fire Police, are volunteer men and women
NYState Peace Officers who are responsible for scene
safety at all Fire Dept. emergencies ( fire, medical,
motor vehicle accidents) in Lido and Point Lookout as
well as Lido Blvd. and the Loop Parkway.
Fire
Police and four other companies (
Engine, Ladder, Rescue and Lido) make up our Fire
Department. The Fire Department is always in
need of volunteers. Please consider this vital
volunteer community service.
If
the Street Fair prevents even one accident, then the
responsible driving message has succeeded.
Additionally,
the on site Fire Police and Historical Museums conducted
an an open house tour. Awards were presented to the
families of the late photographers and authors Kathryn
Cahill and Eileen Lester. A full set of photos is on
display in the museum rooms. Stop in any Sunday morning
to see them and a treasure trove of Point Lookout
and Lido photos.
Many
thanks to Rosemary Dowling, Nan Newell and Jack McLoone
for their continued "museum curator" efforts
as well as the Point Lookout Civic Association,
the Lido Beach Civic Association, the Point Lookout
Chamber of Commerce and their members. All made
Heritage Day 2004 a huge success.
A
portion of the events proceeds is being donated to the
Point Lookout- Lido Fire Department 2004 Fund Drive.
Thanks
